Many theories put forward proving that God does exists are flawed for example St Thomas Aquinas~{!/~}s argument ~{!.~}uncaused cause~{!/~} which is a part of ~{!.~}The Five Ways~{!/~}. He believed that everything had to have a prime mover; everything has to be caused by something. Aquinas would say that the uncaused cause was God. He is eternal by definition and has no beginning and therefore is the prime mover, the uncaused cause, the beginning of everything. BUT what if the universe has no beginning? What Some people, atheists, would say that all worship is a waste of time because there is no solid proof that God exists. They would say that it is a waste of time because even though people perform all this worship they do not get much in return, there are still natural disasters in the world. They would also say that it is a waste of time because there is so much money put into the churches and if God doesn~{!/~}t actually exist then all that money put into, for example the elaborate Orthodox churches, was a waste and could have been used for a better cause of helping theif it is, as some cosmologists think, an infinite series of contractions and expansions? If this is the case, there is no beginning and therefore no need for an uncaused cause. This is just one of the arguments that is flawed, and so therefore some people believe that there is no point in believing and worshipping something that has not even been proven to exist.
Christians would argue that it is not a waste of time to worship God because even though there is no proof of his existence it is a step in faith to believe and worship him for them. Some people would argue that it is logical to worship God, ~{!.~}Pascal~{!/~}s Gamble~{!/~}. If you don~{!/~}t believe in God and find out he does not exist then you gain nothing and if you find out he does exist you lose everything. However if you believe God does exist and you find out he doesn~{!/~}t you loose nothing but if you find out he does exist at the end of your life then you gain everything.
