My First Car Wreck

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 710 persons were killed in various road accidents in Lagos between January and November last year. This is the story of how I was almost added to these statistics.
I had never been involved in a car wreck before. I had only seen it on TV and heard a couple of stories from my friends about their personal experiences, but .
I never thought it could ever happen to me. My dad had told me several times that no matter how good a driver you are, hope and pray that you"re never in the wrong place at the wrong time. I didn't really think of what he said until last fall.
It was a rainy Sunday morning in Lagos, Nigeria. It was cold, damp and dark. My dad and I were on our way back home from church when we stopped at a red light. All of a sudden, we heard a loud crashing sound and it sounded a lot like something had hit us, so we got out of the car to see what was wrong. To our shock, there was a man at the back of the car. There was a huge dent on the trunk and the man was lying on the ground next to a motorbike. His hands were bruised and he looked like he had lost consciousness and he was lying face down. I was so scared that he was dead that I started to panic. My father told me to calm down and get back in the car and then a couple of people gathered around and they started trying to revive the man. After a while, he started showing some signs that he was regaining consciousness so a couple of people helped him off the road and put him down on the side walk. They poured some water on his face and started talking to him to see if he was alright and he started talking. And I thought," thank God he's alright". The impact of his bike against the car had seriously affected his senses. He could barely speak and for a moment, he couldn't remember where he was. My dad asked him what had happened but before he could explain, the ambulance came and he was taken to a nearby hospital.
