The Friars Tale Analysis of the Tale

In the Friar's Tale the symbolism is that even in the church there is corruption. Just because you are a man of god doesn't mean that you always do the right thing. In the Friar's Tale the summoner tells people of the church that if they give him money then their sins will be cleared. The summoner gets a team of spies who provide him with information regarding those living in the Parish. He gathers this information to be used against them by the Church. The Summoner blackmails the Parishioners to prevent them from revealing the information to the Church Court. This also proves that the grade of a person is not defined by their job.
One of the morals in The Friar's tale is do on to others what you want done to you. The Summoner stole money from people, which he probably wouldn't like if people stole from him. Another moral to the story is everybody makes mistakes not everybody is perfect. You can tell this because the Friar ends his tale with the hope that Summoner can some day ask forgiveness of their evil doings and become good men. One last moral is don't be greedy.
The Friar tells this tale because even in a church, a place of god, bad things can happen and things can go wrong. People, especially in the time of the tale, often think that because the church does something that it is right and they have to do it. From The Friar's Tale you can tell that this is not true.
