Why I Want to Be a Teacher

I have wanted to be a teacher since grade school. I have always enjoyed learning, and always loved to run home and share my knowledge with someone that I knew. I want to be a teacher because the sensation of letting others learn sends a warm feeling to my heart. I plan to help others want to learn by making my lessons fun and interesting, to the point where the students will be on the edge of their seats dying to learn more. .
Growing up with bi-polar disorder, I experienced how important a student-teacher relationship can be, and how it can affect a student's motivation to learn. Back in my high school days, I had a teacher that was my mentor, and then eventually became my best friend. She helped me through my academic troubles, and also helped me emotionally, by easing me through my frustrations and aggressiveness about schoolwork. She gave me advice that I took to heart, and she helped me change my life around. She cared about me, and it felt good that I had someone other than my family to support me. I hope to do that with my students. I want to be that special friend not only to the students, but also to the parents and to the community. I hope to create a close bond with each of my students, and they would allow me to watch them grow and mature as years pass on. I love to be around children, and definitely wouldn't mind that surrounding for the rest of my life.
Teaching special education students will help me gain more knowledge on the things that I am teaching, and give me the pleasure by helping those in need of special help. I plan to teach professionally, in a fun, unique way that will hopefully interest all students to learn. I also plan to learn more as time passes on, from my students, just as they plan to learn more from me.I feel, as though teaching is not a career, it's a privilege.
