Lots of money is flowing into Spain and the King gets to keep much of it. America is referred to as the "New Spain," which his interesting because even when England took Americas, they called it the "New World." This shows that Spain had much pride in their nation. Although the money flow into the country was great at first, it is declining (very slowly, but still, declining) for the natives who they had hired are converted. Once a native converted into Catholicism, they were no longer required to work as indentured servants. Thus, they are do not need to work in the mines, as they had before. Spain's main mine-work force is gone and they turn to importing black slaves. Many of the slaves are put in bad conditions and they are dying off. The sudden change in life style, climate, and the workload is causing the decrease in the slave population. However, they are constantly imported for more and more work.
             Columbus's Diary.
This is Columbus's direct accounting of his journey and they events around him. Although it was his personal accounts, it was written primary to provide Ferdinand and Isabel of his journey. Thus, he uses "we", "they." He is highly surprised to see all that his is witnessing. One of the biggest bias is in the way he views the natives. Unlike the stereotypical European during his times, he seemed to be very interested in the natives. He did not consider them inferior, but thought they were beautiful. Columbus" tone is that of informative/ using basic facts. He may bit have been the stereotypical European, but his intentions for travel were nonetheless the same. Glory and Gold seemed to be of interest to him and he wished to faithfully serve his patrons; Isabella and Ferdinand. .
