High school is a place of fun events and learning. Is that really what high school is about? The actual truth is that gang violence and used of drugs occur everyday. In the passage written by Thomas Carbone, "The Truth about High School", Carbone recalls his experiences of gang violence and drug use at his high school. A person attending high school would have to experience some sort of gang fights or drugs in their four years of high school. The question everyone wonders while attending high school is whether or not he or she really can get the high school education that they should. No one really can get the high school education anymore because high school is not exactly a safe place to learn anymore. .
While attending high school, I often experienced the same things Carbone did. There were problems with gang fights that occur at least two times in a week. The campus security often took too long to arrive at the scene if a fight broke out allowing the fight to precede longer. The used of drugs were everywhere on campus. I saw students selling and buying drugs everyday and they would use it in the boys" restroom. The security and principal did not do much about the drug problems. I often heard that they would just ignore it if they saw a student selling drugs. .
I read or heard news of gang violence that occurred in school, that usually lead to someone's death. Most of the problems usually started in the street and ended up on school campus. The gang members continued their confrontation on campus if they ran into each other during school time. They attacked rival gang members at school while they were vulnerable. .
My startling experience of violence I had in high school was when several members of the rival gang stabbed a gang member to death. The problem started in school when one member from each gang confronted each other. This confrontation resulted in a person's life being taken away.
