Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night

Do not go gentle into that good night's rest is written by Dylan Thomas. This poem is about men who are coming to age or close to death and how they should fight against their untimely demise.
First the title gives a small hint on the main idea of this piece. Good night means resting, getting old and death particularly for elderly people. This is evident in the first three lines "Do not gentle into that good night/ old age should burn and rave at close of day/ Rage, rage against the dying light." .
The poem smoothly illustrates examples of words that relate to the ending in one's life. The author uses words like "Old age", "Dying of the light" and the "close of day". The last 2 examples can be related to the sun setting, which leads to great imagery.
Different techniques that have been used helps develop the theme of the poem. Alliteration is present in the piece, "Go gentle" also repetition plays a role also for this piece.
The repetition appears in each section thus being the last line of every stanza. In addition a rhyming scheme present as well, between the first and the last sentences in each stanza plus the last words in the middle of the stanza rhyme together.
Since death seems to be predominately the theme of the poem, the attitude of the piece is sad, pessimistic and reflective. The author choices of words shift the poem to reflect on others standpoints. The theme of the poem can be connected towards army activity that may have resulted from his father.
