             Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States.

             are dead he is forced to live with his uncle in Newburg, Oregon. His uncle was a .
             country doctor intrested in education. While Hoover was in Oregon with his uncle he .
             attended Quacker Academy. Then at seventeen, Hoover entered Stanford University .
             where he graduated from in 1895 with a degree in engineering.
             After graduation, Hoover had manyodd job's in gold minews. In 1897, at the age of .
             23, he worked for a British Mining Firm as chief of it's gold mining operations in West .
             Australia. A year later he was offered a job by the Chinese Government. He accepted .
             the job and was chief engineer of the Chinese Engineer and Mining Company. But .
             before he left for China he returned to California, where hw once minied, and married .
             Lou Henry on Febuary 10, 1899.
             When World War I began, Hoover was in London representing San Fransisco's .
             Panama- Pacific Exposition. When the United States entered the War on April 6, 1917, .
             President Wilson called Hoover home and later appionted him United States Food .
             Administrator. After the armistic of November 11,1918, the Allied "Big Four Leaders" .
             appointed him as director of relief and rehabitation in Europe. Because of all his .
             travelling he was well known worldwide. He once said" I circled the globe five time". .
             In September 1919, Hoover had returned home and some of his friends had .
             launched a campain to give him a nomination for President. Shortly before the .
             party convention met in 1920, Hoover announced that he was a Republician. He .
             did not get the party's vote at the convention, Warren G. Harding did. He later became .
             president and appointed Hoover as the Secretary of Commerce. He held this position .
             through 2 presidentual terms, Harding and Coolidge.
