It is very important that you begin your baby's life with good, early prenatal care. You should also continue this care regularly throughout your pregnancy. Some things to consider are good eating habits, not taking drugs or drinking alcohol, and of course getting exercise.
             When you decide to have a child, it is a good idea to have good nutrition. If you get pregnant when you are still in your teenage years, you need to take in consideration that, you are still growing, so nutrition is essential to you and your baby. When a person gets pregnant, the baby depends on them for nutrition and the nutrients go to the baby first. If a pregnant teen is not eating enough nutrients then they may not get the required nutrients needed for their development. As you choose a diet for you and your child, here are some good things to think about for your diet: 4-5 servings of milk, 3 or more servings of meat and other protein foods, 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables, and 5-6 servings of breads and cereals. Also make sure to get in about 400 micrograms a day for the month before conception through the first trimester. This will help prevent spinal cord and brain abnormalities.
             During and after the pregnancy of your child, drugs and alcohol are very hazardous to your baby. Some subscription drugs can be very fatal to the way your child grows and develops. For example, hormone pills used for birth control or treatment of reproductive disorders can cause limb malformations; aspirin can prolong labor and can have the effect of bleeding in the mother or baby. Other types of drugs like narcotics can make you have delivery complications, reduce the baby's growth rate, give your child respiration problems, and will establish withdraw symptoms.
