Subliminal Advertising: The Hidden Persuader?

However, upon close scrutiny, it is apparent the women are looking at each other women and so are the men looking at each other, suggesting gay relationships.
 A bra advertisement shows two women wearing bras standing side by side. One of the women is clearly looking at the other while the other is looking off to the side. The one looking off to the side is playing with her hair, giving a playful or flirting appearance, while not objecting to being looked at by the first woman. A close look at the add shows that their bras are touching to the point where both are aware of the intimate touch. Again, an inference to gay relationships.
 There was a television advertisement for dog food where a chunk of dog food is cut in half to show how "meaty" it is. However, the ad uses very fine cutlery to cut the morsel to make it look more appealing. This was at a time when there was much in the news about the elderly eating dog food. Consequently, this could have been a very deliberate and subtle attempt to induce the human consumption of dog food.
These messages may be more effective than non-visible ones. They are actually seen with the eye but not registered by the conscious mind for what they are really saying. Consequently, you have the benefit of both eye and subconscious mind working together.
             Backmasking.
Backmasking involves subliminal messages which are found when songs are played backwards. It is not clear whether these messages are intentional or accidental. There are examples of backmasked messages which glorify Satan, talk about lewd behavior, and that extol the virtues of socialism. The criticism is that these messages are only heard by the sub conscious mind and therefore can persuade individuals to do things they wouldn't normally do. The dangerous ramifications of such activities are obvious. That is why there is much concern regarding subliminal messages, especially in connection with the advertising industry.
