Ideology in Islamic Culture

Generations of Muslim Americans are being raised with the same education as other American children, but Trump argues that he does not want to take any chances, so a ban must include everyone. Racism is evident in this picture as it reinforces viewers' attitudes, thoughts, and judgements about Islam and Muslims. People's emotions are dependent on their historical and cultural understanding and not normally on an arbitrary thought. This means that the view that Muslims are inferior is much larger than a single statement from a powerful individual. .
The movie, They Live, shows the true meanings of signs and can help us to analyze how the photo of the Muslim woman can have certain signs that will change in meaning over time. In one scene, the people are unable to see the ideological meaning of the advertisements, but the main character, Nada, finds a pair of magical sunglasses that is able to reflect the true world (Wilson, "They Live"). The ads in the movie are translated by the sunglasses to the word "buy" and the people continue to purchase what they see in them. In relating this to the phot of the Muslim woman, people seem to have a blind hatred of Islam whenever they see a picture of a Muslim, regardless of what the image shows of its context. A person in a headscarf simply gives people an unpleasant or uncomfortable feeling and they subconsciously tell themselves to stay away from Muslims. The ideological meaning of this photo is about racism in that people immediately associate Muslims with terrorists because the definition of Muslim has been gradually shifted over time. Even though we have been taught to treat one another with respect and equality since a young age, this understanding towards Muslims has not always been a part of this throughout history. In the early 1980s, Islamic culture was more closely associated to Christian culture, which meant that Muslims were more likely to be accepted as part of American culture (Kateregga & Shenk, 15).
