Global Child Mortality Rates

The lack of food sources are a major cause for children getting sick and losing their lives. These countries do not have the proper medical care to ensure that the children have a healthy life. The lack of sanitary medical facilities makes it extremely difficult for the children to recover. Many developing countries have very few medical centers, making it difficult for children living in rural areas to receive treatment. In the majority of cases these children are given home remedies that help for a short time before the same child gets sick again. Every time the child gets sick their immune system starts to weaken making the child's chances of living very low.
These children are not born in the best conditions, being medical health for women is not a top priority, if the mother dies during or after birth -the child's odds of living decreases. "A study revealed that when the mother of a newborn infant dies, the child has only one chance in four of surviving until its first birthday" (Unicef), because women do not receive proper check ups or have the proper tools or professional to deliver their baby. The women that get pregnant are sometimes barely of age; being that their bodies are not yet fully developed, it makes delivery increasingly difficult, and in a majority of cases, cause the mother to die in labor. Women's health is not treated equally to men because of gender bias. In Order to bring down child mortality rates the focus "should extend beyond medical interventions, and should prioritize women's rights as well as autonomy social wellbeing of women and dissipate gender barriers"(Brinda). Gender inequality is a constant struggle throughout the world. The well being of women during pregnancy is not a concern for many countries because of high costs. Woman will go without check-ups or proper medical attention when their problems are apparent. Many women give birth at home with an untrained individual, making it quite dangerous.
