The Many Problems of Social Networking

They take our time and our happiness. We become more concerned with what's happening online, rather than in the real world. These networks are damaging and don't do what they claim. Real, meaningful connections cannot be formed online. We choose to procrastinate rather than spend our time wisely. We have become withdrawn, preferring contact with technology in place of face-to-face contact with family and friends. We must change the way we view and use social networks.
People often post things online that they would never say. Things are liked because everyone else liked them. Why do we do this? .
A recent study has proven that teens spending too much time on social networks are more likely to show narcissistic signs and develop behavioural problems. As teenagers we need to realise that these sites affect us and not in a positive way. Earl Sweatshirt, an American rapper, said 'Everyone's like sheep on social media; like, one person starts making noise, and everyone's like, 'Hey, yeah!' and then you got a whole bunch of people making noise at you.' We just follow the crowd, copying each other without making any original decisions. Without doing what we want. The pressure of doing what's viewed as 'cool' is intense and we feel the need to participate. In the film The Social Network it says '"Facebook me" was the common expression after two weeks.' This tells us that once people joined their friends joined and so on, following the latest trend. The site became popular at an extremely fast rate because it was talked about. People listen and they don't want to be the only one missing out. If we choose to join these sites it should be because we want to, not because we feel we have to. .
When drawn into the world of our social networks we have no care for time. We have all seen someone glued to their networking sites, constantly updating their statuses. The hours seem like minutes.
