Pierre Trudeau's Domestic Influence in Canada

 

            Pierre Elliot Trudeau, leader of the Liberal Party, the 15th prime minister of Canada, professor and one of the most well-known Canadian politicians ever. Pierre had one of the more exciting lifestyles of our many prime ministers. Dating high profile women and driving fancy cars making him half Canadian celebrity half Canadian politician. His popularity to the public began a great phenomenon because "he did what no politician before or since has done: he touched the dreams of an entire generation of Canadians." Trudeau inspired millions of Canadians, being of French-Scottish background he was able to touch the entire population. Pierre often had very polarized opinions on things, either being strongly for or strongly against issues, this lead to controversy at times. Trudeau also played a very major role in uniting Canada as a country.
             Pierre Trudeau was born on October 18th, 1919 in the wealthy suburb of Outremont in Montreal. His mother was both French and Scottish, so Pierre grew up learning to speak both languages. Trudeau was born into a wealthy family, so money was never a problem when it came to putting Pierre through school. During his teenage years he attended the very prestigious Jesuit preparatory school "Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf." Pierre then went on to study law at The University of Montreal. After graduating Trudeau practiced law until 1961 (about 10 years) specializing in labor and civil liberty cases, issues he would later bring into focus for all of Canada to see, until he was offered a job at The University of Montréal as a professor of constitutional law. Four years later, members of the Liberal party were searching for potential party candidates and selected Trudeau to run for a seat. His flamboyant and charismatic personality impressed the Liberals, they approved greatly and supported him. Within a year, he had reformed the divorce laws and liberalized the laws on abortion and homosexuality.
