Withdraw from steroid use can be associated with mood instability and depression that in some cases is capable of leading to suicide. (Effects of Performance-Enhancing Drugs) Athletes often overlook or do not fully understand the health and mental risks of these enhancements. Many, if not most, athletes will do whatever it takes to have a one up on the playing field. The negative health risks and issues caused by sports doping alone should make the use of drugs within sports prohibited.
On a similar note, the use of drugs within sports have and will constantly spark controversy for wither or not a players performance was accomplished honest and aboveboard or enhanced through the use of supplements. For instance, according to the Hall of Shame scholastic news, in the year 2013 no players were elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame located in Cooperstown, New York as a result of the sports doping of steroids. Many honorable players who have never been affiliated with sports doping were also kept out of the Hall of Fame. It is entirely unfair to punish the countless number of athletes who were honest and deserving of such an honorable mention because of something they had no control over, such as other athletes using performance enhancers. "PED (performance enhancing drug) abuse has caused many baseball enthusiasts to question seriously the validity of players' accomplishments and, consequently, the integrity of the game." (Webber Wolfgang S. 269) Prohibiting the use of drugs within sports would allow the players to be rewarded for their hard work and honorable accomplishments throughout their professional career without causing controversy, doubts or questions because of another athlete's decision-making. .
To sum up, the mass majority of young athletes today have one or many professional athletes, such as a football, baseball, or basketball players, in which they admire, and all in all look up to as a role model.
