The Dream Act Legislation

In my point of view, the Dream Act legislation should be passed into law because it will benefit the immigrant minors who are already in the United States. The Dream Act would increase the recruitment rate for the United States Armed Forces. It would also provide a path of legalization to educated individuals that are willing to pay taxes and contribute to the U.S. economy. The act will also help reduce high school dropout rates and enable more students to attend college. The Dream Act is supported by seventy percent of people who are likely to vote this act into law. That includes leaders in education, military, businesses and religious orders.
For years, universities, business leaders, community groups, immigrants, and churches have been urging Congress to pass the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act. The Dream Act is a bipartisan agreement that will give young people who were brought to the United States as children a path to legal status and the chance to serve in the military and go to college. In order to qualify for legal status under the Dream Act, the student must have entered the U.S. before turning sixteen, must have lived here for five years, and must have a high school diploma GED, or was accepted into a two-four year university, and have a good moral status.
There are many students who feel that furthering their education would be impossible because without financial aid they are unable to afford it. But with the Dream Act these students gain the opportunity to further their education and achieve their life goals. According to the Immigration Policy Center, there are an estimated 1.9 million undocumented children and young adults who are eligible for legal status under the Dream Act. The Dream Act should be passed into law because of the impact that undocumented students will have on the economy. The Dream Act would reduce dropout rates and give students the opportunity to continue with their higher education and be ready to contribute to this country that they call home.
