targets Iraqi leaders in hope of sparing others.

This article talks about how the United States decided to jump off to a quick start by trying to eliminate Saddam, his sons, and high-level officials right away. They targeted a location in Baghdad where U.S. intelligence believed these people, and more, were located at. Nobody knows whether or not Saddam is indeed dead, because the person shown on television doesn"t look exactly like Hussein. Bush ordered this strike to, as he says, "spare thousands of lives, American, allied and Iraqi." The article then talks about how eliminating Saddam early on would probably cause a large portion of the Iraqi military to simple throw down their weapons and not fight at all. U.S. officials are hoping that that happens, so no people have to die. If Saddam is alive, the US plans wants to get Hussein out of power and restore a democracy since the current dictatorship is ruining the country. Bush also wants to free the Iraqi people from Saddam's reign of chaos. If this approach doesn"t prove successful, then the US will go back to their plan of plain out slaughtering the Iraqis.
I agree with the steps taken by Bush. Not all of his moves, in my opinion, were the best ones, but taking a swift approach by trying to eliminate the "big dogs" in Iraq's government would be a huge bonus should it be successful. By eliminating them, the Iraqi government and its entire military would probably not fight and without fighting nobody would have to die. However, I do not believe that Hussein is dead, I think he is hiding somewhere and has some trick up his sleeve and just hasn"t executed it yet. I think somehow he may be connected with Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist groups; assuming Bin Laden is still alive. .
