Abortion: Supporting and Opposing

Women being able to choose whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term can also prevent from financial instability, as many women can not afford to raise a child. Studies show that 42% of women that undergo abortion procedures are "below poverty level" ("Induced Abortion"). Thanks to advances in technology, surgical abortions have become much safer in a legal setting. A 2012 study in Obstetrics & Gynecology found that women have a much lesser risk of mortality from an abortion, 0.6 in 100,000, while risks of dying from birth total 8.8 in 100,000; around 14 times higher than abortion risks ("Should Abortion Be."). Along with this finding, the study also discovered that a woman's risk of complications concerning abortion are vastly low when compared to complications occurring within in childbirth procedures. This study also stated that colonoscopy procedures have a mortality rate 40 times greater than an abortion procedure. .
As for the chance of fertility, investigations into post-abortion infertility showed that women who underwent two or more abortion procedures were said to experience future fertility, just as would a woman who had two or more natural births ("The Effect of Induced Abortion"). .
Another reason why abortion is beneficial to women is that abortion gives women the option to terminate a fetus with severe abnormalities. In many cases, fetuses have profound disorders that will lead to death during pregnancy or shortly after birth. In such situations, it would be better to terminate the pregnancy, rather than force the woman to carry a deformed child to term. Even in nonfatal situations, such as Down syndrome, many parents or single women may not be prepared for the extensive patience and care required to raise a disabled child ("Should Abortion Be."). .
No woman should be forced to carry a child against her will. Not only will she be bringing an unwanted child into the world, but she may also resort to unsafe, illegal abortions in a desperate attempt to make a decision concerning her body.
