High performance in every test is one of the major goals of every teacher and every learning institution. But most of the mathematics teachers, especially the researcher, failed to achieve these goals. During the seminar, the researcher had an informal interview with the other mathematics teacher, teaching Grade 7, in the district. Based on the interview, the researcher found that most of the students, especially those who belong to lower section, perform slowly and poorly in mathematics. Students do not have mastery even in fundamental operations. The same is true with that of the experience of the researcher.
The researcher had encountered many students who obtained low scores in periodical test. Specifically in grade 7 class of SY 2015-2016, during the first periodical test, out of 89 students 39 got a score of 20 and below from 50-item test. This simply shows that the students had difficulties in learning mathematics that leads to their poor performance in the subject.
This scenario encourages the researcher to conduct the study and at the same time helps the students to improve their competence in mathematics.
