This recognition that all the characters in the novel are flawed guides the reader's understanding and shows Suskinds' complete and big message that society itself is broken and everyone can be controlled. This message is exhibited in Suskind's disgustingly immoral and materialistic world in Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.
