The NSA: No Self-Advocacy

It is almost impossible to find someone who has no form of technology with them at all times, and the emerging generations are conditioned to believe that technology needed for survival. Thus, technological advances make it easier for many different forms of technology to work their way into every aspect of human existence. In a sense, technology has become the norm in which everyone feels that they must own some form of technology to keep up with cultural values. Social media is a major factor in this culture because it emphasizes the importance of using technology to stay connected. However, this influx in the advancement of technology is not as beneficial as one may believe it to be.
Some may argue that it will never get to the point of a dystopian society because American citizens hold too much influence on the government. They believe the government when it argues how the information will only be used to the benefit of the people, and believe that the government is looking out for the best interest of those who live in America. However, the government is creating an illusion that influences the people to believe that they are safe only when the government is involved and has some control. For example, they are taking advantage of the vulnerability people have because of the fear the mass shootings have instilled throughout the country. While this country and its people are on high alert in regards to the influx of violence, the government is using that fear as a way to make people believe they need to give into government control and release some of their rights, such as, the right to bear arms. This is similar to how the government wants to protect us from terrorist attacks by taking the right to privacy. However, if the government can't use all the information it already has to stop terrorist attacks within the country, then it is questionable as to whether or not the NSA is doing its job.
