Most fairy tales end with a happily ever after. .
             The Italian version of Rapunzel written by Giambattista Basile is called Petrosinella. This version is the least pleasant story of Rapunzel. This fairy tale is also the oldest out of all the versions. This short story was written nearly two hundred years before the Grimm version was written. This short story a pregnant woman stole parsley from the ogress' garden. The pregnant woman was caught stealing and was forced to promise her child to the ogress. The pregnant woman delivers birth to a baby girl and names her Petrosinella. Shortly after Petrosinella is born, she is given to the ogress and locked into a tower. Many years go by until Petrosinella meets a prince. Petrosinella and her prince create a plan in order for her to escape from the tower. Their plan worked, Petrosinella and her prince end up getting the happy ending they worked for.
             Tangled is the most recent and known version of the fairy tale of Rapunzel. In this movie, Rapunzel is the princess of a kingdom and is the only child. Rapunzel possesses a very special power that can heal people. This power of hers can even prevent a person from aging. Mother Gothel is the "witch" in this version. She kidnaps Rapunzel when she is just a helpless baby and locks her away in a tower far away from the kingdom. Rapunzel is raised in the tower alone with no contact with anyone or anything besides Mother Gothel, the person she thinks is her real mother. Mother Gothel tries to prevent Rapunzel from being curious about what is outside of the tower by persuading her that the world outside the tower is very dangerous and full of bad people. On her eighteenth birthday, her curiosity wins, and she goes to see the outside world with a little help from her "prince," Flynn Rider. Flynn Rider is a thief that only cares about money. He came across Rapunzel when he was trying to escape from people that were chasing him because he had stolen a very important and expensive crown from the king and queen.
