The Godfather: Values Create the Person

However, as for the amount of faith in the novel, I believe in faith. Though religion cannot change the destiny, it can relieve stress, hopelessness and grief; so faith is a medicine to save your soul.
Truly, we all have our own values, and we have right to follow our values or not. They are maybe right or maybe not. A politician may have immoral values, so why can a gangster not have moral values? Family, friendship, loyalty, and faith are the main benefits of The Godfather. These values are described strangely but still fit in the storyline and lead the reader to concurrence. Even so, I have some uncertainty about following our own values and not accepting other values as Wilson points out from the novel. It is good to have our own values, but we should not have a prejudice in favor of all of them. What finally can you get when you follow all your values? You try to keep one value even if it could harm yourself, or you do not want to adopt a moral value simply because it is not your value. Take, for instance, Michael Corleone, the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone, he had not had the values of friendship and family as his father does until his father's shooting. He used to refuse to be his father's obeyed son and ran away from home (Puzo). After the Don's misfortune, he changed his mind and changed his values. The situation and society have changed Michael's values. I do not assess whether these changes are good or bad, but obviously there is no certainty for us to keep up our own values all the time.
Among values of Vito Corleone, family and friendship are the two main points of this personality. There is no doubt that Vito is the man of power, but also he is the man of family and friendship. To him, "A man who is not a father to his children can never be a real man" (Puzo), and he is indeed a real man to his wife and his children. In any society, family is always a fundamental value of the human beings.
