They live honourably in high social class and their descendants enjoy great subsidies. They graduated from famous universities in foreign countries and the society accepts their capabilities. At the same time, Thailand's literacy rate is ranked at the bottom of other Asian countries. The large majority in the countryside or slums in Bangkok, the city which is considered as Venice of Asia, has to survive under terrible conditions. Poverty prevents them from life prosperity. Many of them are unemployed. Some children were born from unintended pregnancy so they were left by their parents. They are not able to go to school or progress beyond elementary level therefore they lack of proper education and grow up to be immature adults who cause social problems and commit crimes. All of displeasing conditions of their lives force them to raise money in every way they can, including taking bribe in elections.
Bribery brings a corrupted government to the power. When an inefficient government manages the country, welfare is not provided directly to grassroots while their wealth increases suspiciously without investigation. It reflects "economic and political inequalities that are mutually reinforcing conditions that have resulted from the ways in which the gains of rapid economic growth have been captured by elites" (Kevin Hewison, 2015) who preserve their privileges to produce an exclusionary political structure. People in different social classes are obviously treated with double standards by the courts and political power. Public goods are afforded more to people in the capital and urban areas than to those in rural areas. A number of people in rural regions do not have birth certificates to prove their Thai nationality. This prevents them from their well-beings with benefits and rights that are detailed in the constitution. In addition, the government relies heavily on agricultural and manufactured exports and tries to expand economic growth in the cities, in order to compete against other countries, by keeping minimum wages down with no betterment in technological productions and this broadens the hardship of people in the upcountry communities and hill tribes.
