Analysis of Generation Y

 

In this survey, there is 97% of them owned a computer, 94% of them owned a cell phone, 76% of them use Instant Messaging, 75% of them have a Facebook account. The above data reflects that technology is widely used by the Generation Y to enhance the ways they communicate, learn, entertain and kill their time.
             Along with the development of technology, most of the Generation Y is fancy with using technology which influences and emerges into their daily lives or even their ways of learning. Comparing with older generations, the social computing activities such as blogs, instant messaging and mobile data services of Generation Y are approximately twice and five times of older generations respectively. Due to the fact of the rising trend of social computing among Generation Y, e-learning is preferred to be the medium of training in the organizations for transferring knowledge to them at anywhere and anytime. That's why more and more organizations are now using e-learning as an instructional tool for training in order to boost their productivity. The world's most rapidly growing e-learning markets are Malaysia and Vietnam. It is estimated that 5 year annual growth rate for the Asian e-learning market is 17.3% which is the highest compound annual growth rate of any global region. As to carrying out e-learning in the workplace could lower the costs especially in travels, training the employees without the constraints of time and space and the managers could see that most of the Generation Y has a habit of using electronic devices, the managers are desired to implement e-learning system for providing training in the organizations. Even if there is an increasing trend of the use of e-learning in the workplace, the researchers are more likely to know whether Generation Y's habits of using the electronic devices could enhance their learning effectiveness by implementing e-learning approach in the organization.
