Because people commonly think female are dependent, indecisive, weak, lack of emotional control, and too careful. People doubt if a female lawyer can handle her cases or not. Despite of the female lawyer have won many cases in the past, and have strong and direct evidence to defeat their opponents. The distrustful attitude from society also decrease women's motivation in jobs, the vicious circle will continuously occur big obstacles for female professionals. According to Scott Russell Sanders, in "The Men We Carry in Our Minds" describe women are a snarl of shame, envy, wary, tenderness and amazement (313). It's a society comment to women, and they don't notice that women are detail-oriented, fast learner and bravery. Women are considered to have less capacity to handle their jobs, because the stubborn stereotype impression. The stereotypes get in the way of women's achievements, which also bring out discrimination problems.
Women have a hard time in jobs, because of the discrimination. Even though more and more female have professional jobs, discrimination is still a big problem when they compete with male interviewees. If a company has two interviewees with the same education background, and the same years of experience; the company will choose the male as the primary. In the article "Feminism in a Mad World" Aviva Dove-Viebahn states: "You're also gregarious, so you ask for a raise. But your boss says no, adding icily, you have an office and a job that a lot of full grown men would kill for. Stop asking for things." (322). It's a very cruel fact that female don't even have their right to ask for a promotion. Men can't manipulate women like a doll, because women have their own mind and work ability. The discrimination is a big gap to block women's effort, and many women suffer a lot from it. People rarely respect women's effort at work, and they consider that women who can succeed in their work place just because they are lucky, but not recognize to their hard working.
