According to College Board, "Working teaches students about responsibility and can also reinforce what they are learning in school." When a student has a job, they are then responsible for things such as their paycheck. They make the decisions for their earnings and learn to budget based on wants versus necessities. Learning to be responsible with money early on is important in order to avoid making any financial mistakes later in life. The money students earn from a job can also be used towards tuition; when students have the obligation of paying for their classes they feel responsible for doing well. Students with a job earn more than just a paycheck, they also learn to be responsible for their actions. They are responsible for their behavior on the job, such as making it to work on time, and doing their job correctly. When working, students are usually around mature and responsible co-workers. Being around good examples make students act in likewise behavior. Not only do students have to be accountable at work, but they also have to keep up their school responsibilities. With double the amount of responsibilities, students will learn to take things seriously. Responsibility will then lead to independence, which is another life skill earned through working. .
Working while attending school helps students learn to be independent. When students are working they no longer have to depend on their parents for money, which makes them financially independent. They also end up relying on themselves for most things such as transportation, the responsibility of getting to work on time is on their shoulders. A job can help a young adult mature faster and can teach them to take the initiative themselves, instead of always waiting for things to be handed to them. With a job, students have to take things seriously because joking around can cost them their job. When a student is cautious of their actions that is when they become more independent.
