The Inner Journey of Great Expectations

She was deceived by someone she loved and trusted and because of this Miss Havisham lost her trust and faith in everyone. She has revolved her life around Compeyson's actions and over time she has allowed deep seeded anger to build up inside of her. This heart breaking incident destroyed her expectations of love and caused her to become an enemy of the male sex. She is blinded by the idea of taking revenge on the man that she used to love doing everything in her power to achieve that. Miss Havisham lost trust in everything and began to fear the world. To protect herself from getting hurt again she stayed isolated in her house, locking out the rest of the world. This is an example of the loss of freedom but unlike Magwitch this was voluntary. Miss Havisham lost her freedom by withdrawing from the world and limiting her communications with others. Left alone with her memories this left her to dwell on the past, becoming obsessed with what Compeyson had done to her. Loosing her trust in people and loosing her freedom, Miss havisham became trapped in the passed also feeling powerless and weak. Desperate to feel powerful again she took advantage of children because they could be easily influenced. The worst loss that Miss Havisham experienced was self created as she added to the pain of the previous loss. .
