Book Summary - The Wolf of Wall Street

The author, Teresa Bocanegra believes that, "the reader will not discover an American success story to be proud of"(Teresa Bocanegra). Instead, they will find a "narcissistic, immoral, crude, adulterous, drug induced, foul-mouthed, self-indulgent, and self-destructive ego-maniac"(Teresa Bocanegra). I agree with Bocanegra's review. While I found this book to be very entertaining I was also very taken back by Jordan Belforts story. He used very strong language, lived a very arrogant lifestyle and also abused many drugs. "I was sitting behind the controls of my twin-engine Bell Jet helicopter on my way from the 30th Street Heliport in midtown Manhattan to my estate in Old Brookville, Long Island, with enough drugs running through my circulatory system to sedate Guatemala"(Jordan Belfort), said Belfort. This quote from the beginning of book gives the reader an idea of what his everyday life consisted of.
Bonanegra quotes in her review,"This man's life was beyond dysfunctional" (Teresa Bocanegra). I agree. Jordan Belfort was a man who believed that he was the he was invincible and unstoppable. Throughout the memoir we learn his thoughts and we can also conclude from the stories he shares with the readers about how out of control he was. Belfort was making a fortune. In less than a decade, over a billion dollars in fraud was committed. There was a time where he would be making thousands of dollars in just one minute. He was enjoying the life he was living. He had helicopters, yachts, expensive jewelry and he could buy just about anything he could think of. Belfort enjoyed high priced luxuries such as purchasing a silk bedsheet for $12,000, or treating himself to a single dinner worth $10,000. He would also spend the companys credit card on useless things such as expensive and unnecessary entertainment. .
In her book review, Bocanegra states "In an apparent attempt to impress readers, he often details his extravagant spending and here readers will see his braggart side with the list of price tags for everything around him"(Teresa Bocanegra).
