As time progresses, the trends that dominate culture, society and politics become more apparent to our modern society. Among these trends is one that challenges important ideas and values of the past: the persistence and resurgence of religion as a national, regional and global force (Steward Hoover, Web). The interaction between both religion and media is getting to be increasingly obvious due to the growing changes in recent years. As a result, in media, there have been trends in technology that have caused an increasingly diverse, decentralized and multi-channeled environment. .
Rights are principles specifying the kinds of actions that a person should have the freedom to make and take (Craig Biddle, Web). The first amendment in the constitution of the United States of America states, "Congress shall make no law: respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances"(Constitution). The right to freedom of speech is the acknowledging of the fact that in order for a society to live together in peach and in harmony, the people have to be free to express their opinion and beliefs- in spite of the many opposing views that might come their way. .
Coming from a very culturally diverse background ranging from European countries such as Spain and France to Middle-Eastern countries such as Syria and Morocco, I have learned to respect each and every person's race, ethnicity and nationality, regardless of what I believe in. Living in a modern, democratic society in the United States has made people, like me, comfortable in expressing their beliefs, unlike other countries where there are individuals that don't have the freedom to express their point of views and are even penalized for daring to say so.
