In recent years, proponents of gun control legislation have often been held that only federal laws can be effective in the United States. Otherwise they say, states with few restrictions will continue to be the sources of firearms that illegally into more restrictive states.1 There are entirely too many guns in the country of the United States of America to not the law be strictly enforced. The constitution states" A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Most people are not a part of a militia neither they know what a militia is. A militia is an army based emergency group. Even though the constitution makes a suggestion to a well-regulated militia, the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller held that the second amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm, unconnected to service in a militia, and protects the right to use that firearm for traditional lawful purposes such as self-defense in a home.2.
There is another Supreme Court precedent concerning gun control. In the case United States v. Miller, Jack Miller was charged with the violation of the National Firearms Act. The National Firearms Act enforced how the individual's transported there weapons. The National Firearm Act required firearms to be registered with the Secretary of Treasury.
