The Second Amendment of the Constitution protects the rights of people to keep and bear arms. The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the right belongs to the people, while also stating that the right is not unlimited and does not prohibit all regulation of firearms and similar weapons. In the state of North Carolina gun control laws do not allow fully automatic firearms and unlicensed handguns and require applicants that are eligible to wait thirty days in order to receive an obscured handgun. Gun Control legislation has caused many problems for our societies today. .
Most states have the "Stand Your Ground" law which allows an individual the use of a deadly weapon or force when they are threatened in some way. The "Stand Your Ground" law became an issue in Florida when the young man by the name of Trayvon Martin was murdered by a neighborhood watchmen, George Zimmerman. Other issues occurred such as the Sandy Hook killings which caused bills to be passed preventing the sales of semi-automatic weapons. Gun Control is important because violence with the use of a firearm is very high in today's society. The problem with the debate on gun Control is whether the laws that have already been put into place are sufficient enough or do we need more Gun Control laws to be created to make the policies concerning guns more strict and productive. There are legal and constitutional issues contributing to why gun control has become such a problem. In the month of January in the year of 2010 there were gun traffickers along the United States borders. These group of traffickers who were identified for some reason was not properly arrested. Because of the gun traffickers not being properly arrested, there were more than 1400 guns reported in the United States. 665 of those weapons have been recorded by the law enforcement. The other 1355 weapons have not been accounted for.
