The discrimination will escalate to more higher levels of stress towards women veterans. Women are also twice as likely to develop PTSD, as to men, after experiencing traumatic events (Laura Kasinof 3). It is inappropriate that the United States military are instigating the high rate of female PTSD cases. If the military would stop their discrimination towards women the result would be a decrease PTSD found in women. Kasinof reported in her article that female veterans under fifty are more than twice as likely as their male counterparts to kill themselves (2).
There are an unfortunate high number of suicides when soldiers are discharged from the military. Soldiers are imprison by PTSD that result to suicide. Mukherjee states in his article that some veterans are committing suicide while waiting to receive mental health care form the government (1). Veterans need immediate visitation with a mental health professional to receive proper care. There was a veteran family in Chino, California that had a veteran uncle who was diagnosed with severe PTSD, which troubled the uncle with nightmares. Usually, he would smoke marijuana to sleep peacefully. Although, there came a day where the uncle could not handle the stress, even with medicating himself with marijuana, that he had several attempts of suicide over a year. In the article, An Exploratory Examination Of Risk-Taking Behavior And PTSD Symptom Severity In A Veteran Sample statistics show that 53.9% of veterans think about killing themselves (393). This shows the United States government abuses the needs of veterans mental health. Its heartbreaking to witness veterans attempting or committing suicide because they feel its their only result for their never ending pain. Suicide is a serious matter that the United States government shouldn't ignore because it also destroys families. .
