The Benefits of Learning a Language

d). In my opinion, learning languages is important for memory. It makes memory stronger and increases personal skills.
Learning languages has many positive effects on human's brain. Researchers stated that learning a foreign language can raise brain power and help to prevent many brain diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer's. "Language study actually develops as many brain cells as do other types of study" (Fitz-Gerald, 1925, p.402). It also may raise blood and oxygen flow to the brain. Studying languages from an early age can alter the brain structure and strengthen the natural ability to focus, retain information, and other brain processes. Personally, I think people should learn languages for their brain health. Learning a language can protect your brain from many diseases, and also it can develop the brain.
Knowing another language increases job opportunities. If you can speak more than one language, you will be more attractive to the employers. Knowledge of a foreign language is required by companies and corporations, but bilingual applicants have more job chances (Anamaria-Mirabela & Monica-Ariana, n.d.). Learning languages opens other employment chances for bilinguals. It gives a real competition when applying for a career, and qualifies people to work abroad. According to Villano (1996) it also gives a competitive advantage for employees by opening up additional job opportunities (as cited in Anamaria-Mirabela & Monica-Ariana, n.d.). Studying languages is helpful for future career goals. .
By learning a second language, people can improve their communication skills. It also helps them to understand other cultures and other communities. Fitz-Gerald (1925) reported that the truth of learning a new language is to know more about others' history, literature, philosophy, science, art, and culture. Communication will open a new world to multi-linguals, and will provide them with knowledge about other cultures.
