Conflict is the process by which people perceive that others have taken some action. During this process we have learned that most people have a misconception about conflict. Levy states that conflict is a normal part of a team's life, yet most people have this idea that conflict is bad and it interferes with the team dynamic. The perception is it should be avoided yet we understand that team members misunderstanding one another causes conflict. This Conflict can also be bad for a team because it can create team members to have strong emotions and it can even add on stress due to matter of the conflict and the break in harmony. In order to resolve the conflict you have to interfere with the cohesion of communication; meaning you need to have hard and awkward conversations. .
During this course we learn that conflict is good and in a team dynamic conflict is the sing of a healthy team. Imagine a team that had no conflict, what that would say about this team? (Levy (126) suggest that a team that has no conflicts is unhealthy and is possibly suffering from unhealthy agreement. This leads to defensive annoyance meaning that in order to manage conflicts the team rather just annoys them. Conflict is vital to the success of a working team, healthy teams are organized to benefit from the perspective of other people. Everyone in a team is an individual with a particular set of strengths and weaknesses. This means that even if the goal of the team is one the view of the goal is unique within each person in the team. This allows the team to explore new approaches to a conflict that can be effecting the team or bring about a new approach to a task that makes the team more efficient (indirect quote levy 129) this is a huge benefit to a team who allows conflict in their team be a healthy part of their environment. .
Understanding conflict in a team is good and understanding its pros and cons is vital.
