Some of these protests have become violent leading citizens to loot and riot after both police officer failed to be indicted. Another issue that we can compare between both periods of time is during the progressive era when the country was dealing with the rise of corporations, big businesses, and urbanization to the present issue of net neutrality, which is based off regulating the Internet which is starting to become a threat to how the country is run just like the rise of big business which was a threat back then.
             The Declaration of Independence says "human beings are equal" and that "human beings have rights." These rights include the "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". The Declaration also says "the purpose of government is to secure rights." So why can we not allow illegal immigrants escape the immense poverty, disease, or cruel government of their country of origin and let them pursue the American dream that most of us take for granted. We treat illegal immigrants like they are inferior and some sort of pest instead of treating them like an equal human being. They deserve a chance to be an active part of the United States community without being judged or discriminated against.
             "We are a nation of immigrants. We are the children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the ones who wanted a better life, the driven ones, the ones who woke up at night hearing that voice telling them that life in that place called America could be better"(Mitt Romney). "Immigration policy should be generous; it should be fair; it should be flexible. With such a policy we can turn to the world, and to our own past, with clean hands and a clear conscience." (John F. Kennedy). Two men from opposite parties and different periods of time with one goal how to solve the issue of illegal immigration in our country. The illegal immigration issue has been a thorn in our nations side for the past few decades it is a highly controversial subject that has created intense heated debate throughout the county.
