The garden of three senses is a park located in Tampines. The Tampines is the largest residential area in Singapore and it is also the second largest commercial hub of Singapore which is located in the eastern part of Main Island. The Tampines can be the largest residential area and commercial hub but it also has a wide range of community parks comprising of beautiful scenes, beautiful tress and orchids which enhances the beauty of the parks. The Garden of three senses is one of the small community parks which is a 3 hectare park. The park has the capacity to hold some 200 people and many events carried out within the premises of the park like concerts, exhibitions, band performances and other functions. The park was also the place where the kids used to play in the evenings, old age people who would walk around and spend time and others enjoyed spending time and relaxing. The park was a source of relaxation and enjoyment of people of all ages. But recently there has been a noticed fixed at the gate of the park which reads that the area is reserved for the construction of a residential complex. This was something which was anticipated by the other residents. When confronted with the builders and the community head which paved the path for a debate on aspects of development and environment (Barker). .
The thesis Statement is the construction of the residential complex will compromise the benefits of the environment. Tampines is the largest residential area as well as commercial hub hence it can be said much of the greenery has eloped and substituted in the era of industrialization and development. Development is necessary but not at the cost of destroying the positive attributes of environment (Batello and Marzot). The construction of the residential complex can be beneficial for the development of the area but the deforestation, the degradation of the environment and the ecological imbalance are wider concepts that need to be catered.
