Analysis of Machiavelli's The Prince

 

            This paper will explore the guidelines and strategies that Niccolo Machiavelli advocates for in the proper and effective way of ruling a government as a prince. In this paper Machiavelli's tactics will be analyzed and compared to modern day governments. This paper will seek to show how his tactics are still a used today and what makes them so effective since his work has stood the test of time. After studying Machiavelli it is apparent why The Prince remains relevant in this day and age. .
             The Prince was written by Machiavelli as a how to guide for the prince of Florence, Lorenzo de Medici, on how to rule and be an effective ruler. In The Prince Machiavelli addresses various topics of government which are relevant to various types of governments whether it be a monarchy, theocracy, or a republic. The prince addresses how the various types of principalities, the routes taken to acquire power, and the manner in which a prince must conduct himself. .
             The Prince was written hundreds of years ago yet however is still relevant in modern day. It is taught in political thought classes across the globe for a reason. One can look at the current tactics deployed by politicians and see the roots of Machiavelli's guidelines being put into action. Machiavelli's thought is not only apparent in politics but many business find inspiration for their aggressive actions from the words put together in The Prince. The Prince is one of the most influential writings and it is apparent because it has stood the test of time. .
             There are numerous points made in the prince that are vital and the first one comes up in the first few chapters where he describes the different types of principalities and how they are acquired. Machiavelli describes two different types of monarchies there is the hereditary one where the power is passed down through a family bloodline. Alongside hereditary monarchies there are mixed monarchies which mean a new prince has come into power by other means other than his family name.
