World Religion - Hinduism

Hinduism is a polytheistic religion, which means that they believe in a group of gods or goddesses. In Hinduism there are plenty of gods and goddesses for every sort of thing imaginable. I have already talked about a few gods, but I have yet to mention a goddess. One goddess they believe in is called Lakshmi. She is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. .
Another set of gods and goddesses that they believe in come from one of the main gods Vishnu. There are ten different avatars, which is essentially a more earthly form of greater deity's based from the greater god Vishnu. The first of which is Matsya who is the fish avatar. He was said to rescue plants and animals. The second avatar is Koorma. Koorma is known as the tortoise avatar. Koorma is said to support the churn of the ocean. The Third avatar is Varaha who is known as the the boar avatar. He is said to have raised the earth out of the water. The fourth avatar of Vishnu is Narasimha., or the man-lion. He is said to overpower mortal people who try and defy death. The fifth avatar is Vamana the dwarf avatar. He took the demons and put them into the ground so they are away from the people. The sixth avatar is Parasurama or the angry man. He is said to have been a priest who became violent to punish evil kings. The seventh avatar which is one of my favorites is Rama. He is just a simple king who gives everything to hold up old Hindu rules. No matter what happens he protects what is important to him and I like that idea. The eighth avatar is Krishna. Simply put he is just a holy cow herder amongst other things. The ninth avatar is Balarama who is said to be one of The Buddhas many reincarnations. The final avatar is Krishna's older brother Kalki who is the mighty warrior. He is much like the Greek God Ares. These are 10 of the many gods and goddesses that are a part of the Hindu religion. I believe that this gives them a sort of purpose and belonging and helps them function in their everyday life, because everything has an explanation.
