Common sense seems to dictate that everyone should be equal and have the same legal rights and protection. However, some believe that certain groups, races, or criminals don't deserve the due process that a majority of us receive. When talking about someone's freedom and life, no one can take away someone's right to have the proper legal requirements that everyone should be entitled too. No matter what race, gender, or crime you may have committed, everyone deserves due process. .
Due process is the idea that laws and legal proceedings must be fair. Due process is mentioned in the constitution, in the 14th amendment it states, "nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." The constitution is a set of laws for what the government cannot do to us. It tells us what we are entitled to, and part of that is due process. If it is stated in the constitution that our freedom, our life, liberty, property cannot be taken from us without proper due process. There is no reason to believe that any race, gender, or certain criminal group should be deprived of their rights. A criminal is a criminal, but I believe everyone should have their right to a fair trial, and to not have their rights taken from them. They should be able to speak for themselves and have the opportunity to stand up for their innocence, as it is stated in the constitution. .
Terrorism has been a hot topic on whether or not a suspected terrorist should have the right to due process. When talking about a crime that may hurt, harm, and/or potentially kill it's easy to jump to the conclusion that they shouldn't have due process, because they are potentially hurting and/or killing many people. It doesn't make sense how we continue to single out certain crimes on whether or not they should receive due process.
