Theories of Classroom Management

 

I do not want to over-emphasize turning in complete assignments as if a student does not fully complete their assignments, they should still turn it in and receive a grade befitting their completion and correctness. This also reinforces the importance of responsibility and accountability. The second rule is "Do not run in the classroom" as no running helps keep the classroom safer. The third rule is "Quietly raise your hand and wait for permission to speak" as this will help decrease the number of disruptions and interruptions in the classroom. This rule will also help teach the students patience. The fourth rule is "Bring all necessary materials to class (paper, pencil, books, etc)" as it is important to be prepared for class so that the maximum amount of learning possible can happen. The fifth rule is "Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself" as it helps teach the students that safety is important both inside and outside the classroom.
             The term "Classroom Procedures" refers to directions for the use of classroom materials and class activities. These procedures are directions that have been set by the teacher. Great examples of these procedures are using the restrooms, using the water fountain, and using the pencil sharpener. The term "School Procedures" differs from "Classroom Procedures" as these are directions that have been set by the school and district and can be found in a handbook. Examples of these procedures are using the library, using the computer lab, and school entry and exit.
             Each teacher will have their own set of classroom procedures that they use in their classrooms. In my future classroom, I plan on having specific procedures for instances where students need to use the drinking fountain and sink as well as procedures for using the pencil sharpener.
