Clarke once famously said that we will build a space elevator 10 years after they stop laughing. (Graham) Though the space elevator is still being experimented on, there are possibility today with the discovery of carbon nanotubes that humans will one day travel to space using an elevator. Though this topic has been a debatable one to weather the space elevator will be safer to travel with due to some complications such as the length of carbon nanotubes which might be a problem to combine. The fact still remains that a space elevator should be built because it will be cheaper and more accessible than a rocket, it will help increase the amount of people going to space, and it will widen our knowledge about space. .
As compared to traveling with a rocket to space, a space elevator will be a better alternative because it is cheaper and it is also accessible. One of the problems people had with the Apollo project was that they thought after these project, going to space will be cheaper. but this was never the case as going to space may cost about half a million dollars. Only few people can afford this money as such space adventures and explorations have been limited. But with the invention of the space elevator, going to space will be way cheaper and affordable. Therefore I do support that a space elevator should be built from the earth to the Moon. .
With the discovery of carbon nanotubes, there have been arousing possibilities that humankind might be working towards one of the biggest inventions of all times.Seeking for new knowledge is what has helped us live through time and we have learn to adapt to our environment because we always studied our surroundings. Therefore inventing a space elevator will increase our knowledge about space and also the use of carbon nanotubes. Scientists and students will be able to take trips to space so that they might actually see how the space functions and by so doing they will acquire more knowledge.
