Mongols of the 13th Century

 

            In ancient times the Mongols where considered some of the most feared and ruthless warriors that walked the earth but although they were savages they still had a structured civilization that contributed to society. There is no doubt that the Mongols where blood thirsty fierce warriors but that is not all the Mongols where basically meaning they where a somewhat "tweener" between the two. The Mongols had a complex structure that not many people recognized and many different contributions were made through this. .
             Genghis Khan ruled his army with the goal that they would be feared throughout the land. He accomplished this goal through many savage tactics. Document one presents the reader with a map of the very large landmass that the Mongols gained control over. The document also provides information showing that the Mongols did conquer the largest landmass out of any other ruler. This elaborates on the fact of the Mongols ruthlessness because with every new capture Genghis Khan grew thirstier for more and more land. The conquered territory is a direct result of the cruelty of the Mongols. Document four speaks of the city Nishapur under siege. The document explains the Mongols breaching the walls of the city and then the terrible wrath that they unleashed. This also amplifies the fact that the Mongols where indeed quite barbaric. The next document is a painting of what seems to be a chamber of torture for the Mongols. The painting depicts prisoners being tortured and killed in ways such as being buried alive and being shot buy an arrow. Like before this document shows even after battle they continued to be cruel. .
             Many people wonder how a group of barbarians could be so successful. The answer to this is the barbarians had a complex structure in the way the lived. Document two describes the layout of Genghis Khans army and the punishments of retreat. It describes how the army was put into layers led by different captains and also shows how Genghis used the art of somewhat "black mail" to keep his troops in battle.
