Movie Summary - Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's ladder is a movie with a truly bizarre plot; however, the events that take place are very much relatable to people's lives today. Jacob has fond, joyful memories that are followed by unforgettable traumatic experiences that represent the human conditions in today's society. In life people strive for happiness and everyone accomplishes that desire by incorporating different aspects in their life. For Jacob his happiness derived from his family life, which included his lovely wife and three children. Jacob is his happiest when he recalls sleeping next to his wife while he gets angry at her for keeping the window open on that chilly night. The memory of his wife makes him happy even though it was a memory of him and her disagreeing. In most cases this aspect of unconditional love towards ones spouse is true, because he/she is able to look past the quirks that their spouse has/does. Another memory that makes Jacob blissful is when he puts his children to sleep and they say they love him. Truly, any man who is a father will agree that hearing ones child say they love him is something that will never get tiresome. All in all, the family life may not be for everyone. Nonetheless, The family life is something that most people usually find joy in as depicted in the memories of Jacob, because the feeling of being needed and loved by a spouse or ones child is something that can not simply be replaced. Nevertheless, with every loving memory in ones life there is no doubt a miserable memory to follow.
It is impossible for a person not to go through life without expressing hardship and pain, some surely more traumatic than others but it is inevitable. Jacob experiences this in many different forms. For instance, when he comes back from the war in Vietnam he has horrific flashbacks of the last chaotic memory of him being a soldier. The flashback is of his team being attacked all of a sudden and him being stabbed in the stomach.
