Beyond Experience And Talent (BEAT)

I was standing in front of a $3,500 dollar DJ set up. I saw what appeared to be two technic turntables and a gold plate Vestax mixer. To the average person this combination of electronic equipment might be to old and out dated or it might even be inside some museum collecting dust. But to me I saw a new hobby calling me by my first name. I was one afternoon inside a modern record store "WP Records" were I got my first fix at what became my addiction to what is known as DJing. It was that day when I saw a live DJ in front of me doing what I now idolized. DJ Ricardo V. owner of WP Records was doing what he does best mixing, scratching on this $3,500 dollar system. He made it seem so simple, every song that he selected was mixed and blended to the next song with a unique way. I sat there just puzzled as to how this man just made concoction of different songs to make the perfect cocktail mix. .
As I tapped my finger to the beat of DJ Ricardo V. I came to realized I wanted to learn this art and become a DJ Artist. Although, I wanted to become a DJ, I knew absolutely nothing about BPM's, Mixing, Blending, Scratching. The only thing I knew then was I wanted to one day be like the DJ's on the Radio, I wanted to become an On-Air DJ and Personality. Some time passed and my DJ skill improved at the time I didn't know anyone who was in the Radio Industry. So, how was I to get exposed to DJ at Club Venues? I had no idea how to approach a venue to get the opportunity to DJ and get the exposure to get notice by a Radio Station. Even when I got a slot to DJ a set at a Nightclub, I didn't get notice because of the I didn't know the right people. Even with all the practice and the hard work to get the gigs I was at a disadvantage because in the Radio Industry most of the opportunities that arise are by who you know in the the industry. How can I get achieve a professional level, to be even considered a good enough DJ at a Nightclub and step over to job in the radio industry as a DJ or On-Air personality.
