The State of Florida's Education System.
Is Florida's education system in a state of emergency? With an amendment to the states constitution for smaller class sizes, we need to prepare by raising teachers salaries to bring more qualified teachers in Florida. Our teachers are spending entirely too much time preparing students for the FCAT exam, this causes our students to achieve a one-dimensional education instead of a well rounded one. We desperately need to look at our learning procedure.
What kind of education do you think our kids are getting when they are being prepped soly for a test? I don't think you get a high quality one. The teachers are spending the majority of their time preparing their students to take the FCAT exam. If the school gets a bad test score they lose funding, and if they lose funding then there kind of caught in a "catch 22". Is this the way we should be running our education system, which sounds more like Darwin's theory (survival of the fittest). Which means the smartest schools that pass get all the funding for the next year, I don't think that's right. Then the schools that get the bad scores lose founding and teachers and parents both don't want to work at or attend these schools. I believe in order for our students to get a more solid education, they need a well-rounded one. .
In order to have a well rounded education our students need to have Art Class, PE, and possibly history on their local surroundings. With budget cuts on the way and schools drastically trying to get there students to pass the FCAT exam these classes are being cut or put aside. I believe that these classes are a vital part of are kids education and future. Art class for instance inspires creativity allowing them to create things, and use their imaginations. It would be nice to educate on their surrounding cultures.
If students had the chance to learn about things in their surrounding areas, it would help inspire them and let them know where they"re coming from.
