Short Story - Jungle of Terror

They were not even halfway to their destination when the plane's engines failed and the plane started to descend rapidly. She now has to think of a way to keep herself alive. She cannot afford to jeopardize the mission. .
It felt like eternity before she felt the impact that broke off her seatbelt and threw her face first into the back of the seat in front of her. She let out a moan as she heard something went crack. The sound was deafening as the plane crashed through what seemed like a hundred trees before finally coming to a halt. She let out a groan as she pushed herself from the seat and wiggled her limbs, checking for any impairing physical injuries. Miraculously, she suffered none and the crack sound came from none other than her fellow passenger who sat beside her with his head bent at an awkward angle. She shuddered. Military instincts kicked in as she reached out for her backpack from under her seat. She eyed the cabin cautiously and gingerly got out from her seat. Next, satisfied that the cabin was in total silence, she climbed onto her seat and reached into the overhead compartment for her gun case that thankfully, was still intact. She pulled it down and jumped off the seat. She opened her backpack and pulled out a thigh holster complete with her Sig Sauer P226-Navy pistol and strapped it to her right leg. She checked that the dossier containing information of the mission and her laptop was still intact before proceeding to remove a couple of rounds of ammunition and storing the magazines into her left leg pocket. She switched off the safety for her gun and holstered it back. She then pulled out her satellite phone and bold black letters printing "NO SIGNAL" blinked back at her. Frustrated, she threw it back into her bag.
Carefully, she picked her way through the human carnage on the floor to Row 16 where an emergency exit was located. Both the wings of the aircraft have snapped off and she was left with no choice but to make a jump instead of sliding down the raft.
