Peer mentoring at my school has taught me a great deal of things. I have been a peer mentor now for one year and I am now entering into my second year. Through this program I have helped younger students adapt to the new surroundings in a high school atmosphere. I am developing great role-model skills and great friendships. I feel better about myself when I know that I am helping out fellow students with the same problems I went through as a new kid in a bigger environment. Listening to other students helps me to set standards and goals on how to handle my own difficulties and how to give advice on them. I look forward to making younger students" transition from middle school to high school a better and more relaxing experience.
I believe that being involved in school government is a good way to get involved and to represent your student body in making a difference. I was involved in student council as a representative for two years and still continue to be involved in school spirit activities. I think it is essential to let the administration know where the students stand on school activities. The input from the students helps establish new ideas and amendments to the old way of doing things. The fact that the students of the school get to have a limited power on what goes on, makes the school process more fun and worth the experience.
I believe I deserve this scholarship because I meet all the qualifications of an outstanding student. I set goals only to achieve them, not to break them. I have worked hard to obtain the grades and discipline I have today. An outstanding student not only works hard at accomplishing their goals and good grades, but also develops a strong form of character. With all do respect I do believe that I hold all of these qualities and have proven this to many, this is why I deserve the scholarship for an outstanding student. .
