The Inactivity of Savage Torpor

Ever since the improvement of modern day technology, the negative effects of mass media have been increased in society. The upsurge in people being deluged by trivia and sensationalism, have reduced their mind to a "savage torpor", in other words physical or mentally inactivity. Firstly, teenagers are caged in their own actuality and have become indolent in nature. Secondly, mass media alters people's minds to be competitive with others. Lastly, media creates a virtual image of perfection that causes people to judge themselves. As a result, having a steady diet of mass culture products would produce "savage torpor" in one's mind.
With the rise of the so called "technology era", now a days almost every day all teenagers use technology. This being said, teenagers are losing their touch with nature and are captive within their devises. Mass media especially social networking sites have affected teenagers physically and mentally. Physical activities such as sports and other interactions have now become virtual, trapping teenagers indoors, chained to their personal devises. For them social networking has become their social life. As a result, teenagers have psychologically became indolent. It is for this reason that a constant use of social media can fatigue the mind.
Surprisingly social media, the most used mass media product, reasons people to become competitive with one and other. For example, having the highest number of friends on social media or travelling more cities than someone else is perceived as an achievement. This type of behaviour is common in our daily lives because of mass media products. Furthermore, social media helps create a virtual image of one's personality and accomplishments which then leads to people unconsciously becoming competitive on needless things. In consequence, it is important for people to give themselves a break from the sensory overload that mass media has projected over society.
