Short Story - Irony

He was faced with a dilemma; if he wanted to attend this event, he would need to upgrade his wardrobe. .
John did not own a vehicle, so the bus was his transportation. On a good day, it would take forty, to forty-five minutes, to get to town. Today was not a good day. Half of the population of New York also wanted to get to town. It was bumper to bumper traffic, and the ride ended up taking an hour and a half. By the time he got to town, it was 3:30 p.m. He hurried to the Calvin Klein outlet and found a sales representative to get measured for a suit. The clock read six by the time John returned home to get ready for the night ahead. John never spent much time in the mirror, but tonight he took nearly fifty minutes preparing himself. It was not until ten minutes before the party that he looked at the clock. "Crap!" he screamed, ". I am going to arrive late." Little did John know he was in for a surprise as he arrived at the dinner party.
As John walked up to the massive front door, a butler greeted him, took his coat, and lead him into the extravagant dining room. Already seated at the table were four other guest of which two he knew, his parents, Andrew and Samantha; the other two he did not know. "Is there anywhere in particular you would like to sit, Mr. Montgomery?" asked the butler. " Yes. May I be seated by Andrew and Samantha?" asked John. "Indeed you can, Sir!" John and his parents chatted for a substantial amount of time while they waited for their host. After nearly an hour, Nicole revealed herself. "Greetings!" she said, "I have invited you to my house to display how wrong you were about me, Mrs. and Mr. Montgomery" It was then John realized it was Bella Wayne, the love of his life.
John gazed in awe as Nicole stood in front of them. He started reminiscing about all the things they did six years ago when they were dating. Remembering those times, however, stopped quickly as John's parents and Nicole started bickering.
